Dear Hanover High School Community,

Thank you so much for the last eight years in which I was lucky enough to serve as the HHS Principal. My family and I feel truly blessed to have been part of this community. My mind, my heart and my voice has been forever impacted by you all.

Mask challenge!

There’s a decent chance that requirements for returning to school in the fall will include wearing masks while in the building. You have the summer to research your favorite design, find cool materials, create a collection so you have a clean mask every day, and come back sporting your own cool styles. Like to sew and need something to do this summer? Make some designs to donate or sell. Prefer to surf and spend? There are lots of people making and selling masks online. DHMC gives out 400 cloth masks a day and is always looking for donations. We can’t wait to see your creations when we’re back in the building!

Looking for something creative to do this summer?

Craftstudies is open at the League of New Hampshire Craftsman, offering smaller classes to meet requirements for social distancing. Among the upcoming workshops is a class in knifemaking for students 13+ offered by Skip Cady. All of our visual art students “met” Skip through a series of virtual artists visits this spring. Chelsea Funnery Theater Program

HHS alum Sadie Holbrook is part of a really cool literature-based theater opportunity for teens this summer! The Chelsea Funnery is a theater program based in Chelsea, VT for kids from 12-18 that focuses on physicality, clowning, love of poetry, and ensemble building within the framework of the Shakespearean text. Throughout their two week curriculum, they provide fun and challenging theatrical training for students of all experience levels, with a commitment to students theatrical and holistic growth emphasizing creativity, healthy community engagement, youth empowerment, self esteem and team building.

This year, to support the health of our community, we’ve decided to move our programming online. We understand that spending more hours on Zoom might not be anyone’s first choice. To combat this, our creative team of directors has doubled-down to instill our goofy style into our online meetings, and keeping kids minds and bodies active throughout our time together. This year’s program has a more flexible schedule to allow kids to keep themselves healthy, and help them build structure and community connection in this chaotic and isolating time.

We’ve also reduced tuition prices this year to just the $50 deposit fee. Scholarships are available!

Interested in some summer science learning?

Check out “What’s The Big Idea?” with recorded video conferences with Dartmouth researchers on a wide range of topics. Physics students learned about the northern lights and black holes in these conferences this spring, but there are also videos about computer science, brain science, and health. Keep on learning!
