Friday Update

Happy Friday! Last Friday morning it was snowing, today it’s sunny and 70 degrees. I hope everyone is finding some time to enjoy this weather. HHS quarter one ends today and students will transition into the second quarter on Monday.

I can’t thank everyone enough for all their efforts in having a successful first quarter. Many aspects of the return to school were stressful and proved to be a lot of work. Collectively, we got through it and should all be proud of this accomplishment.

This afternoon we were fortunate to have an outside performance by Footnotes, Acapella singers and Jazz Combo. I want to commend the students and staff for their hard work, it was a beautiful end to the week. I continue to be amazed by the entire staff and student body for their passion, dedication, and respect. We should all be proud of Hanover high School!

Thanks again for everything you do to support our school community and have a great weekend.

Notes from the Health Office

Due to the increased numbers of COVID-19 in Grafton County, we will be more vigilant about sending home students who present with symptoms associated with COVID-19.

The NH State Epidemiologist, Dr Chan is recommending that anybody with new or unexplained symptoms of COVID-19, even if mild singular symptoms, should be excluded from school and tested for COVID-19.

When we send a student home for illness, please contact your child’s PCP for recommendations about testing for COVID-19.

Thank you for helping us keep our school community healthy!

Council Update

Throughout the first quarter, Council has been discussing the Marauder mascot. After beginning the year with three discussions about the mascot, we moved into debating a motion about it. If passed, the motion would begin a process to change HHS’s mascot. Our most recent meeting was conducted in small groups, discussing the issue as a whole in a more relaxed and respectful manner.

This will likely be a long and complicated process as we wrestle with this issue as a body and school, and we’d love to receive more input from the community. Feel free to reach out to Council by email!

Cafe Survey

Fresh Pick’s Café is proud to be the foodservice provider for the Hanover School District. We really hope we are meeting the needs of your community and would love to hear from you.

We’d like to ask a few questions in order for us to identify areas where we can improve.  Please take a moment to participate in a short survey on areas we can improve. Your answers will help Fresh Pick’s Café steer the district’s meal program to better serve your community.

Thank you,

The Fresh Pick’s Team

Winter Sports Update and Questionnaire

At this time, Hanover High School plans to offer all winter sports as allowed per state and NHIAA guidelines. The NHIAA has approved official tryouts/practices to begin on December 14, 2020 for all winter sports. Pre-season conditioning and skills/drills can begin November 30.  Competitions can begin January 11, 2021.

Official registration will take place on FamilyID and will open soon. In the meantime, we would like to gauge anticipated interest for our winter programs. We ask that all students that are potentially interested in participating to please complete a brief questionnaire to indicate interest and receive communications on the winter season. This does not obligate you to participate and those that aren't sure should fill this out.

Winter Sport Anticipated Participation Questionnaire

Please complete this as soon as possible, but no later than Tuesday, November 10.

If you have questions, please reach out to Megan Sobel, Athletic Director.

New Nordic Skiing Development Program

Hanover Athletics plans to offer a development program for Nordic Skiing this winter. This will be part of our Nordic Ski Program, but would be specifically designed for beginning skiers or those that don’t want to race. Practices would be 3-4 times a week with no travel so less of an overall commitment than other HHS winter sports programs. This new program will provide a unique opportunity for our students to get involved in a wonderful winter sport with no

experience needed. Interested students should fill out the Winter Sport Anticipated Participation questionnaire. By completing the questionnaire, you will help us get an idea of interest level and you will receive further information before committing. Official sign-ups through FamilyID will occur at a later date.

If you have questions, please reach out to Megan Sobel, Athletic Director .
