The number one question of the day for me was, “what are you doing over the winter break?” My answer was pretty clear, “as much as I want to travel, I have to stay local.” I would bet that most everyone has a similar response and am thankful for that. I am thankful that school has been in session since day 1 and we continue to provide instruction to all of our students. We should all be commended for our efforts to create and maintain a healthy school environment. This is no small task and takes a community to make it happen, thank you! As we close out another successful week I would like to share excerpts of an email that our assistant superintendent, Ms. Robin Steiner, sent out to the staff…
We are two days away from break, and we have not had a positive COVID-19 case in our schools since the beginning of December! Thanks to the work of our students, staff and parents we have been in school for almost 100 days. There are not many districts that have been able to accomplish such a feat.
There is positive news related to the overall COVID front as well. New cases in the US have declined by 36%, new deaths have declined by 22%, and hospitalizations have decreased by 27% over the past 14 days, while 10% of the population has now received at least one dose of the vaccine. Closer to home, in VT, cases have decreased by 13% over the past 14 days. Unfortunately deaths and hospitalizations have increased. In NH cases have decreased by 39%, deaths have declined by 29% and hospitalizations have decreased by 23% over the past 14 days. Grafton county remains in the very high risk category with 88 active cases.
Although we are seeing a decline in cases, it is important that we remain vigilant over the break and follow the safety guidelines for each of our states. In NH, residents may not travel for leisure outside of the New England states. In Vermont, one may not travel outside the state. If one does choose to travel for leisure over the break, one must self quarantine for 10 days.
I hope everyone has an enjoyable, peaceful, and healthy winter break!
Course Registration Correction
The portal for course registration in Power School will open on March 1. We previously advertised opening on February 23rd, but due to unforeseen circumstances we will need to delay until March 1. Students are encouraged to talk with their teachers and school counselors about course offerings and individual planning. We will keep students updated with reminders as this date approaches.

Juniors and Junior Parents
Monday March 1 at 6:00 is our Kickoff to College Night, usually held in our Auditorium but this year we will be on Zoom. Panelists will include admissions counselors from Dartmouth, Colby-Sawyer and UNH, as well as two current Hanover High seniors. We hope you’ll join us from the comfort of your home. The meeting Zoom link will be sent out in an email after break.
We just wrapped up a wonderful winter season with the Community Service Team. Twelve members of the team made 18 meals for David’s House and the Upper Valley Haven in the last 2.5 months. We are so appreciative of the families and community members who have supported Youth-in-Action over the years to make this work possible. We have sent a letter to HHS families with an update of our work and asking for continued support for the community service opportunities we offer to HHS students. If you have any questions about YIA, email Beth.
The HHS mailboxes were brimming with Valentine's loveliness today. Thank you to all the HHS staff who continue to support our children through this tough school year. We hope you have a well-deserved break next week. We also hope you found time to read the students' appreciation messages that were in the atrium today, and that you enjoyed the cookie-pops provided by the HHS families. Thanks to everyone who made this happen. We love you!
Online yearbook orders are open. Go to Picaboo to place your order and pay online. Or you can place your order by sending in a check for $65 payable to Hanover High School to Jessica Eakin (in the library).
The yearbook has several features specifically for seniors:
Parent Ads: Go to Picaboo to purchase and design your parent ad. Parent ads go at the end of the yearbook and are a message you send to your child or to the class of 2021. Learn about purchasing and designing your ad.
Senior portrait and Senior Sections were due 1/20. However, while am working on formatting and editing, I’ll accept late submissions, so submit them in the Class of 2021 Schoology course asap. If your senior portrait file is too large, email it to Jessica Eakin
Sign Up for Black History Month Events
Come join Diversity Club in celebrating Black History Month throughout the month of February! Diversity Club invites staff and students to attend events to celebrate and learn more about black history, identity, and culture. The events will take place during Advisory Study on Tuesday afternoons (2/9, 2/23, 3/2) in Room 302. The students who sign up to attend these events will engage in a discussion inspired by a short film, TED talk, or guest speaker. Ana, a Dartmouth student, and Zanevia, a UVM student, have been invited as guest speakers to participate in the events. Some of the topics covered will be intersectionality, social racism as well as other issues concerning the Black Experience. The goal for these events is for students to highlight underrepresented perspectives and for students to learn through discussion with their peers. We will send out further information before each event for those who have signed up.
Sign-ups are still open for our 2/23 and 3/2 events!
