Another busy week at HHS as staff and students wrap things up and transition to quarter four. I believe quarter three was a success with minimal disruptions, we kept the course and were able to keep our current school schedule. Staff and students pivoted when necessary and the school moved forward.
As indicated last week, the superintendent requested a waiver from the state regarding returning to 5 days per week in-person learning. HHS has been in school all year with the current scheduling options. Wednesdays have provided opportunities for staff to meet individually with students and activities and council to take place. It has also enabled the facilities staff to perform a building-wide deep cleaning. If the request is denied, we will have to act quickly to communicate a new Wednesday plan. I remain hopeful the waiver will be approved and thank everyone for their patience as we continue to work through these COVID times.
Finally, I want to wish everyone an enjoyable, peaceful, and healthy Spring break.
Health Office Notes
Please inform the Health Office if your child has received a COVID vaccine. We would also like to know which vaccine was received and the date of the immunization. This is important information that will help us with future contact tracing and in following COVID infections. The link to complete our vaccination data is below. If you have already put the information in once we have received it. There is no need to enter the same information twice.

Online yearbook orders are open. Go to Picaboo to place your order and pay online. Or you can place your order by sending in a check for $65 payable to Hanover High School to Jessica Eakin (in the library). Last chance to order is May 1st.
I want to clarify that seniors (aside from editors and free and reduced lunch students) do not get free yearbooks. Last year was special. Pretty last minute, we were given a donation to make sure every senior received a yearbook. The majority of seniors had already ordered a yearbook. We do not have a donation this year, so the only way for your senior to get a yearbook is to order through the website listed above or by bringing a check to the library.
Senior Parent Ads:

COVID Update letter to Families and Staff

Dear Families and Staff:
As spring vacation approaches, we know that students, staff, and families are ready for a much needed and well deserved break. We know how hard everyone has worked to keep both our in-person and remote students and staff able to teach and learn safely. This has involved diligence among our families and staff to refrain from travel for leisure and taking all necessary COVID precautions daily. We hope you will help us to remain COVID free following the school break. To do so, we recommend the following:
Students and staff who live in New Hampshire - Governor Sununu has opened up domestic travel for families and staff living in New Hampshire without a requirement to quarantine. Although these changes have been made at the state level, we strongly recommend that if you travel domestically, you follow guidelines more closely aligned with the CDC when you return.
Students and staff who live in Vermont - Vermont has also opened up domestic travel for families and staff living in Vermont without a requirement to quarantine. All unvaccinated Vermonters must be tested, using a PCR test, within 3 days upon reentry to the state. Although these changes have been made at the state level, we strongly recommend that if you travel domestically, you follow guidelines more closely aligned with the CDC.
The CDC recommends delaying travel until you are fully vaccinated. Most students and staff will not be fully vaccinated at this time. If you do travel domestically, and are not fully vaccinated, we recommend that all students and staff quarantine for 3 to 7 days, and get a PCR test on day 3, and return once one receives a negative test result. We know that this is not convenient; however, it is in the best interest of students and staff and will allow us to have school remain open and in-person. The safety of our students and staff remains at the forefront of all we do. Your adherence to these rules will help us to remain COVID free.
In closing, we hope you have a wonderful break. Please let your child’s school know if he or she will be quarantining following travel. This will help us to keep our schools open for the remainder of the school year. Enjoy your break!

Athletics - Spring Sports Spectator Policy
As we begin competition for the spring season next week, we want to make sure our community is aware of the COVID-19 Spectator Policies for Hanover home athletic events this spring. At this time, the only spectators permitted at home athletic events are 2 immediate family members per rostered player. Although we always appreciate the support of our students and community at games, we are limiting the number of spectators at events. Thank you for your continued support of our athletic programs. Parents/Guardians of the Class of 2021 - Please encourage your child to complete and submit the 2021 Local Scholarship Application. The application was emailed to them on March 30th, and can also be found on the Class of 2021 Schoology page.
Students must be logged in to their school Chrome account to submit the application.
Although a majority of scholarships are determined with need in mind, a few awards include specific criteria that are not need based. By submitting this one application, your child will be considered for approximately 15 local scholarships.
If you applied for financial aid, you must upload/include as .pdf documents:
1. A copy of your Student Aid Report (SAR), which includes your Expected Family Contribution (EFC). This is part of your FAFSA documents.
2. The financial award letter you received from the college that you will be attending next year.
This application is due on Monday, May 3rd, at 3:00 p.m. Students can see Tom Eberhardt in the Counseling Office with any questions.
Anti-Bullying and Sexism Education for Our Community
As the Hanover High School Community has debated the mascot, several unhealthy aspects of our school culture have come to light. Many students, staff, and community members have asked for an ongoing schoolwide conversation around sexism and bullying which will be integrated into our current social emotional learning curriculum during Tuesday Advisory Circles.
This programming will begin the last week of April and continue through the month of May and will consist of viewing and discussing Ted Talks as well as presentations from HHS alums Eric Barthold, founder of “Man Up,” and Cindy Pierce, social sexuality educator and storyteller.

Race, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, socio-economic class, and disability can be difficult to navigate—even for the most experienced educator or parent—but with the ongoing pandemic and its disproportionate impact on Black and other marginalized communities, our deepening economic divide, and continuing acts of racial violence have made it clear we all need additional tools to skillfully address these issues with our children and with each other.
SAU 70 District Equity Committee is pleased to offer two community workshops, facilitated by Groundswell Change, to help us get started. The workshops have been developed with input from district families, Hanover High School alumni/a, and members of the larger community, with the shared goal of creating a welcoming and more inclusive place to live and learn.

We've all been there — that moment when someone says or does something that feels harmful or overtly biased. Even the most skilled among us have a hard time knowing how to respond. This workshop is for all of us who want to gain the tools and courage to speak up "in-the-moment" when we believe incidents of racism, sexism, and other bias have occurred and build real-time skills to interrupt, question, echo, and engage.

Do you have any old or unused bikes gathering dust? Still trying to clear out your garage or attic? The Bike Rehab group for this year's Intensive at Hanover High School is looking for used bikes in need of TLC to fix up and give to folks who need transportation, including: kids bikes, mountain bikes, and road bikes. Bikes can be in poor condition, but should be good quality name brands so we have good components with which to work. Parts in good condition will also be accepted.
We are accepting donations after school vacation, from April 19 - May 14. If you have a bicycle or parts you'd like to donate, please send a photo along with the brand, size, and any known repair needs to Deb Robinson at HHS, and we'll reply after vacation.
We kindly ask that you not leave any bikes without our approval, as we are only able to fix a limited quantity and parts are in short supply this year!

Biking Parents Needed
The MI course "It's All About the Bike" is seeking experienced biking parents to help chaperone road rides, mountain biking rides, and possibly trail work and bike mechanics during the May Intensive week, May 18-21. Having a background check on file with the SAU is ideal, but not necessary. Please contact John Phipps or Deb Robinson if interested. Adults are needed for a half day or up to the full 4 days. Congrats to Our Students!
Congratulations to Lachlan McCann for making a short film called Sleeping Sons which he submitted to the WRIF Freedom & Unity Young Filmmaker Contest last spring. His film won First Place for the Jamie Kanzler Award as well as Third Place for the Personal Stories category and then was selected for broadcast as part of a Freedom and Unity Showcase on VT PBS.The broadcast aired last night and has additional airings on 04/11/21 at 12:00PM and 04/12/21 at 9:00PM on VT PBS Plus. RYLA 2021 goes Virtual!
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a unique opportunity for sophomore and juniors to gain insight and knowledge in life and leadership skills.
This year, due to Covid-19, RYLA 2021 will be held on-line from June 25-27th, 2021.
This on-line E-RYLA program is for high school completing their sophomore and or junior year. Participants will be selected and sponsored by the Hanover Rotary Club.
Activities have been modified from in-person RYLA activities to work within the virtual environment. It will be fun and challenging with team learning experiences. The format will be on-line via Zoom with multiple gathering rooms for different activities.
