Dear Hanover High School Community,
I would like to thank the Hanover Fire Department publicly for their assistance yesterday. Their skilled response and professional demeanor remedied our situation (smoke in building from a malfunctioning HVAC unit) quickly and safely. I would also like to thank our building staff who were in close radio contact as we swept the building to ensure all were evacuated.
Yesterday’s events also made me want to share a bit more about our emergency procedures as we start our school year. HHS has a standing emergency management committee that meets regularly to develop, review and practice procedures for all manner of situations. We work hard to be prepared for extreme weather events, human-caused events, personal tragedies and all other extreme situations. The Hanover Police and Fire Departments are our close partners in emergency planning and we value their input, wisdom and expertise.
Throughout the year all students and staff will be practicing building evacuations, an off-site evacuation (we use Thompson Arena as our backup location should the school be uninhabitable), bus evacuations and lock-down drills. Our emergency planning committee uses data gathered from our drills along with best practices to continually refine our protocols.
This weekend is our annual Homecoming event. There are many home athletic contests and a dance on Saturday night (semi-formal; 8 - 10 pm). I hope to see lots of our community at the various events.
I hope you enjoy the gorgeous weather this weekend,
Justin M. Campbell
