Dear HHS Community,
Happy Memorial Day Weekend: I hope everyone in our community can find a moment this weekend to reflect and give thanks to all of our veterans, especially those who gave their lives in defense of our country. The importance of their selfless service is especially apparent in this moment of national crisis.
Guidance from HHS Nursing Staff: The key to halting the transmission of COVID19 is still “social distancing”. This is the time it is increasingly important to comply as our states begin to open up the various venues giving access to the public.
Please see the strong recommendations below as defined by the CDC.
Without complying we raise the risk of another surge of illness and the repeated shutdown of all venues.
Our school physician, Dr. Steven Chapman, has written an article concerning the current negative impacts on children due to the closure of schools. Please read this as it is very moving.
The district nurses are meeting regularly to begin to plan on how the reopening of school will evolve. Our focus will be on:
Please feel free to contact any of the nurses with questions or concerns.
Graduation update: Members of the Class of 2020 visited school over the past three days to pick up their caps and gowns and record messages to their classmates. These video clips will be combined with those from the class performers, pomp and circumstance from the HHS band, and the class speakers to create a digital graduation. Seniors will return to HHS (on a set schedule allowing for social distancing; info to follow) June 11th (rain date June 12) to pick up their graduation box. Seniors will also return all textbooks, chromebooks, and other school property at this time. The contents of the boxes are top secret at the moment but our staff is working hard to ensure this is a suitably memorable end of the year. We will also have staff on hand (and well spaced) to celebrate this class that means so much to us.
June 5th is the last day of school for all students in SAU 70 Schools.
June 9th and 10th - tentative dates for school supply drop off (chromebooks, books, uniforms, etc). We are awaiting final approval of our plan and will communicate as soon as we can via email with the details on this and other alternatives to these dates.
Locker Cleanout - we have emptied all lockers at HHS. Ally Cassidy is arranging pickup times for families.
Congrats to Maddy Zuckerman who placed as the top singer in her age division for the National Association of Teachers of Singing, Inc. competition and to her voice teacher Julie Ness. Well done!
Reminder that the deadline for the Senior Music Recital is May 30th. Submissions to Jenny Chambers.
Have a wonderful weekend!
