Footlighters
Footlighters is the Hanover High School Theater Program advised by Yuliya Ballou .
We produce three shows a year:
The fall play is a classical play such as Shakespeare, Moliere or Sophocles. Everyone who auditions for the fall play receives a part, making it a great opportunity for student to get involved even if they've never acted before. Recent plays were Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth.
The winter play is a modern play which typically has a smaller cast. Last year's production was Radium Girls. This February we are presenting the North American premiere of a modern Ukrainian play I'm Fine by Nina Zakhozhenko, directed by Amanda Rafuse. Live student band on stage will play original songs (lyrics: N.Zakhozhenko, music: Tommy Crawford.) More info & tickets found here.
The spring play is a musical. All students who audition receive a part. Even if you do not think of yourself as a singer or a dancer, we encourage you to audition and come learn with us. Last year's production was The Prom! This spring we are going to stage Mean Girls, High School Version. Director: Eric Love, Music Director: Kevin David Thomas, Choreographer: Susan Lamontagne.
Every show has a tech crew. We generally work on the set on weekends. Participating in set builds is a great way to get involved and meet other people on the crew. For the last two weeks of every show, the crew comes to daily rehearsals. All shows have a costuming team, a community engagement team (posters, media presence, ticket sales). We try to train people to do many jobs -lights, spots, sound, backstage crew, hair/makeup--so we can count on you to participate in many ways. We welcome parents' help as well. Theater is a TEAM sport!
Email Yuliya Ballou to find out how you could get involved with HHS Footlighters. We welcome students, staff, and community members to get involved in many different ways.
